A Village of Refugees
A long time ago, there was a small village secretly placed close to the mountain.
One day, girl Lucy went to gather some firewood in the forest. Lucy was always smiling, enjoying her life, and she knew the forest and mountains like her oneself. This time Lucy noticed some footprints in the soil close to her neighbour's house. Firstly, she thought that it might be some kind of bear, or worse than she hoped, that it could be some kind of joke created by kids. Lucy, run to the neighbour’s house to solve the problem, even though she shouldn’t bother him. This man was an old person, and everyone called him Grandpa Lu (from the name Luke). Lucy, knocking at the door of the house, heard noises inside. Grandpa Lu said, “We should consider our behaviour against nature, because I saw it! I saw a dangerous man walking by the farm, and he killed my sheep!” Head of the village: “Well, we should call our best men to check the forest, and ban people from entering until the problem is solved.” Lucy ran away thinking about this mysterious man. “How did he get here? Are there more people like us?” She, always interested in mysterious stuff, instead of heading home, rushed to the dangerous zone.
She recalls the forbidden place hidden close to the plain, where even she was forbidden to go… she did. Claiming the tree, she sees smoke, probably from the fireplace. A problem came up when these men noticed her looking their way, and started to yell at her. Scared Lucy headed back home and lost her shoe. They went after her but couldn’t reach her, but found her shoe.
A night, already. Lucy got scolded for being late. A man, who already knew about their village, went after her to give her a shoe back, but since it was night, he decided to go there in the morning.
Lucy couldn’t sleep. “Who are they?” In the morning, she went there and met this man. A man quietly approached a young Lucy and slowly handed her the shoe. Lucy had never met a guy like him before, shocked, waiting for him to leave. But this man came and said to her that she shouldn’t lose the shoe. Lucy looked deeply into his eyes and said, “I’m Lucy.” “I’m Tim, and you should head back to the village. This place where you were yesterday is pretty dangerous for a young lady like you.”
Tim left, and Lucy wanted to go after him but was stopped by the head of the village. At home, the Head said to Lucy to never tell anyone whom she had just met. She had a lot of questions, and Head promised her to explain them later.
One week passed, and Lucy madly went to the Head house and started questioning him without checking who else had been there. Tim laughed, Lucy, with her killing eyes, started to blame him for a sheep, and the shoe, blaming the Head for keeping everything in silence, and not answering her questions. The Head then asked Lucy to keep calm, explained to her that there is an outside world, but this world might be dangerous. He wanted to tell everyone that there was something outside, and Tim was with him. Tim daily checked the outside world and had noticed that it was as dangerous as they thought. Both of them then explained that it was Grandpa Lu who banned the outside world. He was often deceived and robbed by people there, and that’s why he decided to build his village where he would lock everyone away so that what happened to him wouldn’t happen to them.
This village was practically full of refugees who could not afford a life in the fast-paced and expensive world.
